A freshly restored Lamborghini Miura SV, finished in a deep brown hue, quietly stole attention at the inaugural Anantara Concorso Roma.

Held in the cobbled surroundings of Centro Storico, the event brought together some of Europe’s most valuable classics under the banner of “La Dolce Vita delle Automobili”.

Yet it was Lamborghini itself that delivered one of the most talked-about entries. Its factory-restored Miura SV arrived following a meticulous three-year programme led by the firm’s Polo Storico division, tasked with preserving and authenticating historic models.

The headline detail is the colour. Officially named Luci del Bosco, this rich brown isn’t something you’d typically associate with a Miura, but it suits the car’s low-slung curves remarkably well.

Polo Storico went to unusual lengths to ensure authenticity, researching period-correct paint formulations to match the exact 1972 specification.

The result is a finish that feels both distinctive and historically precise, rather than a modern reinterpretation.

Inside, the cabin has been retrimmed in ‘Senape’ — a mustard tone that complements the exterior more convincingly than you might expect.

Beyond aesthetics, the restoration returned several details to factory-correct condition, including the extended handbrake, smaller steering wheel and period hazard warning system.

Externally, subtle elements such as the front grilles, door-handle fins and centre-lock hubs were all brought back to original specification, while the distinctive ‘Bob-type’ exhaust tips — named after Miura development driver Bob Wallace — complete the period look.

Events like this often celebrate the rare and the valuable, but also the stories behind them.

That theme continued with the overall Best in Show winner: a 1932 Maserati V4 Sport Zagato.

Its survival is as remarkable as its engineering, having been dismantled during the Second World War by a Dutch owner who hid its V16 engine in his bedroom to keep it safe.

For UK enthusiasts, the Miura’s appearance is a reminder that heritage departments are becoming increasingly vital in preserving automotive history — and occasionally, in challenging what we think these icons should look like.

Honda Integra Type R DC2 Tolman restoration https://thecarsdaily.com/honda-integra-type-r-dc2-restoration-uk-tolman/ https://thecarsdaily.com/honda-integra-type-r-dc2-restoration-uk-tolman/#respond Tue, 14 Apr 2026 07:52:10 +0000 https://thecarsdaily.com/?p=6800 A Honda Integra Type R DC2 Tolman restoration rarely reaches this level, but Tolman Engineering’s latest project sets a new benchmark for how these revered front-wheel-drive icons can be preserved and reimagined in the UK.

Built over 740 hours, this example goes far beyond a conventional rebuild.

Originally one of the official UK-market cars sold in the late 1990s, the DC2 has long held legendary status among enthusiasts.

Time, however, has not been kind to many surviving examples. This car arrived with extensive corrosion, particularly around the arches and floorpan where moisture had taken hold.

With genuine replacement panels now scarce, Tolman fabricated large sections from scratch, dedicating around 180 hours to reconstructing wheel arches, rear quarters and structural elements.

The aim was clear: restore strength properly, not disguise deterioration.

The finished car wears a colour that will divide opinion. Championship White has been replaced by a deep Peugeot green, applied using nitrogen during the painting process to eliminate moisture and deliver a cleaner, more consistent finish.

It’s a technically meticulous approach that reflects the wider build philosophy. New seals, refurbished lighting and thorough underside protection ensure the car is not only visually striking but also better equipped to handle modern roads than it ever was in period.

Honda Integra Type R DC2 Tolman restoration

Mechanically, the philosophy remains faithful. The iconic B18C 1.8-litre VTEC engine has been rebuilt to factory specification, delivering a dyno-verified 190hp.

Upgrades are minimal and carefully judged, limited to essentials such as an immobiliser and additional soundproofing to improve usability without dulling the engine’s character.

Beneath the surface, the chassis has been comprehensively refreshed with Nitron dampers, new bushings, brakes and lines, sharpening the driving experience while retaining the car’s original balance.

Inside, attention to detail continues. The once-faded red Recaro seats have been retrimmed to match pristine rear upholstery, with period-correct fabric sourced from Australia.

Even the engine bay has been restored to a higher standard than factory, highlighted by a refinished red crackle cam cover.

What began as a simple repaint alongside the owner’s Tolman Edition Peugeot 205 GTi quickly evolved into a full-scale restoration once the car was stripped back.

With original parts unobtainable, Tolman chose to recreate rather than compromise. The result is a Honda Integra Type R DC2 restoration that respects its origins while elevating it for modern ownership.

Can-Am Supercar: The Lost Kiwi V8 Hypercar Project Explained https://thecarsdaily.com/can-am-supercar-kiwi-v8-hypercar/ https://thecarsdaily.com/can-am-supercar-kiwi-v8-hypercar/#respond Wed, 01 Apr 2026 10:33:36 +0000 https://thecarsdaily.com/?p=6753 New Zealand’s ambitious Can-Am project aimed to deliver a raw, V8-powered two-seater supercar with a clear nod to Formula 1 legend Denis “Denny” Hulme.

The concept was conceived as a tribute to the country’s only F1 world champion, though Hulme passed away before the car ever reached its full unveiling.

In hindsight, that timing may have spared the project from greater scrutiny.

At its core, the Can-Am was designed around a naturally aspirated General Motors V8, paired with an open-wheel-inspired, two-seat layout.

The idea was to create something uncompromising and deeply driver-focused, blending race car principles with road-going usability.

One fully functional prototype was eventually completed, and a striking papaya-coloured demo car appeared at the 2010 Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Journalists even got a brief chance to sample it, offering a rare glimpse into what the final product might have been like.

Despite the early promise, the project quickly encountered real-world hurdles.

Plans were revised in an attempt to make the car viable in more global markets, but key regions such as the United States and Australia were never fully pursued due to strict crash and emissions regulations.

Without access to those major markets, the business case for production began to unravel.

Ultimately, the Can-Am never made it into full production.

While at least one prototype exists, the wider ambition faded as the project stalled. Today, the brand’s website remains live, though it leans heavily on heavily stylised imagery and what appears to be generic or AI-generated content, alongside a pitch for potential investors.

The once-bold supercar vision has, for now, drifted into obscurity.

There is still a lingering sense that the idea could resurface. The narrative now feels tied to New Zealand’s next wave of motorsport talent, with speculation that a future success story could revive interest in a Kiwi-built hypercar.

Whether that comes from racing success or renewed investment remains to be seen, but for now, the Can-Am stands as a fascinating “what could have been” in modern automotive history.

Lola T70S returns with road-legal V8 continuation https://thecarsdaily.com/lola-t70s-road-legal-v8-continuation/ https://thecarsdaily.com/lola-t70s-road-legal-v8-continuation/#respond Wed, 01 Apr 2026 10:12:55 +0000 https://thecarsdaily.com/?p=6730 Lola is reviving one of its most iconic racers with a limited run of continuation cars—and, for the first time, a road-legal version is part of the plan.

Just 16 examples of the reborn T70S will be built, blending 1960s design with modern engineering.

The project recreates the final Mk3B iteration using original archive drawings and digital scans, preserving the low nose and distinctive stacked headlights.

While the silhouette stays true, the materials move forward: Lola replaces traditional fibreglass with its new Natural Composite System, combining plant fibres, basalt derived from volcanic rock and a resin sourced from sugar cane waste.

It’s a notable shift towards sustainability without altering the car’s visual authenticity.

Lola T70S
Lola T70S

For road use, the T70S GT pairs a 6.2-litre Chevrolet V8 with a six-speed Hewland manual gearbox, producing 500bhp and 455lb ft of torque.

With a dry weight of just 890kg, performance is predictably serious—0–62mph arrives in 2.9 seconds and top speed is pegged at 200mph.

Despite its race-bred layout, the GT introduces a touch of usability, adding Alcantara trim, modest luggage space and even air conditioning, though the exposed aluminium monocoque ensures it remains firmly driver-focused.

Former F1 driver Johnny Herbert is overseeing testing, underlining the car’s intent to stay as close to the original driving experience as possible.

Lola T70S
Lola T70S

Alongside it sits the track-only T70S, which leans harder into its racing roots. It uses a period-style 5.0-litre small-block Chevrolet V8 delivering 530bhp and 425lb ft through a five-speed Hewland LG600 gearbox.

Lighter at 860kg, it cuts the 0–62mph sprint to just 2.5 seconds and reaches 203mph. Each example will carry an FIA Historic Technical Passport, making it eligible for historic motorsport events.

The T70 name carries serious weight. From John Surtees’ dominant 1966 Can-Am title to Lola’s 1-2 finish at the 1969 Daytona 24 Hours against Porsche and Ford, the original cars were giants of endurance racing.

Lola T70S
Lola T70S

This continuation project taps directly into that heritage while carefully modernising the build process.

Now under the ownership of British racer Till Bechtolsheimer, who acquired the Lola assets in 2022, the marque is steadily returning to relevance.

This time, however, it’s doing so with something far more visceral than electric race programmes—a lightweight V8 machine that stays true to its roots while embracing a new era of craftsmanship.

AMG Widebody Mercedes 560SEC Heads to Auction Listing https://thecarsdaily.com/amg-widebody-mercedes-560sec-bring-a-trailer/ https://thecarsdaily.com/amg-widebody-mercedes-560sec-bring-a-trailer/#respond Mon, 23 Mar 2026 09:53:31 +0000 https://thecarsdaily.com/?p=6516 A rare Mercedes-Benz 560SEC modified by AMG has recently appeared for sale, offering a snapshot of a distinctive chapter in Mercedes tuning history.

This 1991 model, known as the “Marakaito Missile,” is now available through Bring a Trailer and has caught the eye of collectors around the globe.

The coupe, painted in Malachite Green Metallic, belongs to the C126 generation and features a widebody conversion, which is said to have been done by AMG Japan.

It includes prominently flared arches, redesigned bumpers, and subtle aerodynamic enhancements. With fewer than 50 widebody SECs thought to have been made, this car is quite an uncommon find.

It rides on period-correct 17-inch AMG Aero III multi-piece wheels by OZ Racing and is equipped with Bilstein-AMG suspension, maintaining a stance that clearly speaks to the 1980s tuner scene.

Under the hood, there’s an AMG-tuned 6.0-litre M117/9 V8 engine fitted with cylinder heads derived from the Mercedes-Benz M119 DOHC design, along with a custom AMG exhaust system.

AMG Widebody Mercedes 560SEC

Initially, the engine produced about 375 horsepower, paired with a four-speed automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential.

Recent upkeep by the current owner has included rebuilding the brake calipers, installing new engine mounts, and replacing the torque converter.

New Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires were also fitted late in 2024.

Inside, the cabin offers a different kind of artistry.

The Belgian company Carat Duchatelet redesigned the interior using black and green buffalo leather that covers heated, power-adjustable Recaro seats and extends across the dashboard.

Green highlights appear throughout the instrument cluster, where hand-crafted dials sit alongside a speedometer reading up to 320 km/h and a tachometer that goes up to 7,000 rpm.

Classic touches include burl wood trim, a Nakamichi CD stereo, and period-specific comforts like a power rear blind and climate control.

Having covered just 74,000 kilometres, this car shows limited use and is notably well preserved for its age and type.

It is currently listed through a dealer in Berkeley, California, accompanied by original manufacturer literature, a clean Carfax report, and a Montana title.

For enthusiasts in the UK, vehicles like this recall an earlier era in AMG’s history—before it became fully integrated with Mercedes-Benz.

At a time when performance divisions tend to follow more standardized paths, this widebody SEC serves as a reminder of a period when tuning was more daring, personal, and unapologetically extravagant.

Audacious Quattro V8 Restomod Brings 600bhp Revival https://thecarsdaily.com/audacious-quattro-v8-uk-restomod/ https://thecarsdaily.com/audacious-quattro-v8-uk-restomod/#respond Fri, 20 Mar 2026 17:24:54 +0000 https://thecarsdaily.com/?p=6498 A fresh take on the Audi Quattro is quietly taking shape in the UK, swapping its famous five-cylinder engine for a supercharged V8 under the hood.

This creation comes from British start-up Audacious Automotive, blending rally-inspired styling with the mechanical guts of a mid-2000s performance car.

Behind this project is Mac Zaglewski, a sculptor and restorer who sees the car as a continuation of the Quattro’s legacy rather than a traditional restomod.

Beneath its updated exterior lies the chassis, electronics, and 4.2-litre V8 engine borrowed from the 2006 B7-generation Audi RS4.

This choice significantly shapes the car’s character, favoring a rear-biased quattro system equipped with a Torsen differential and a manual gearbox—elements Zaglewski insists are crucial for a genuinely engaging, analogue driving feel.

More recent models like the RS3 were dismissed because their front-biased all-wheel drive and automatic transmissions would stray too far from this intent.

While outright performance might not be the headline, the numbers tell a compelling story.

Audacious Quattro V8 Restomod Brings 600bhp Revival
Audacious Quattro V8 Restomod Brings 600bhp Revival

The supercharger boosts power from the RS4’s standard 414bhp to over 600bhp, and the vehicle sheds an estimated 250kg, promising quicker acceleration and sharper handling.

The bespoke bodywork for the initial car was crafted from steel and aluminium but is expected to switch to carbon fibre for wider production.

Its design takes clear cues from the compact S1 Quattro of Group B fame, with every vent and intake thoughtfully integrated for real function, not just style.

Fitting this combination together has meant rethinking proportions. The original Quattro’s shorter frame contrasts with the more elongated RS4 donor, requiring significant adjustments to structural points like the windscreen position and mounting brackets.

Each build will be tailor-made, allowing customers to choose subtle styling tweaks while staying true to the core platform.

Inside, the cabin is set for a total refresh, featuring billet aluminium controls and a more tactile, driver-focused arrangement.

With prices starting around £350,000 before taxes and excluding donor vehicles, this project clearly targets a bespoke market.

Zaglewski emphasizes that the goal isn’t to strip apart pristine classics but rather to breathe new life into those cars that would otherwise face prohibitively expensive restorations.

In doing so, the Audacious Quattro offers an opportunity to preserve and reimagine neglected examples, combining contemporary engineering with a distinctly analogue spirit.

For enthusiasts in the UK, the proposition is appealing—here’s a car that channels the heart of a rally legend while bringing the performance and practicality of a much newer machine.

In a time when vehicles increasingly depend on digital controls and electrification, the Audacious Quattro V8’s dedication to mechanical purity stands out as its most compelling feature.

Colin McRae’s Subaru Impreza Heads to UK Auction https://thecarsdaily.com/colin-mcrae-subaru-impreza-turbo-2000-auction/ https://thecarsdaily.com/colin-mcrae-subaru-impreza-turbo-2000-auction/#respond Thu, 19 Mar 2026 09:47:00 +0000 https://thecarsdaily.com/?p=6457 A notable piece of British rally history is about to go up for auction, and surprisingly, it might be more accessible than many expect.

This 1996 Subaru Impreza Turbo 2000, listed in the UK, carries a direct link to one of the sport’s most legendary families.

Registered as N489 SOC, this isn’t just any Impreza. It started out as an official Subaru UK press car, making it one of the earliest models in the country to feature a bonnet scoop.

After its brief period serving the media, it ended up with the McRae family, where it stayed from 1996 until 1999.

A time when Subaru was at its peak in the World Rally Championship, following Colin McRae’s 1995 drivers’ title and subsequent manufacturers’ wins through 1997.

Colin McRae’s Subaru Impreza Heads to UK Auction

What makes this car more than just another classic Impreza is its backstory.

It’s believed that Colin, Jimmy, and Alister McRae all got behind the wheel during its time with the family.

Adding to its authenticity are signatures from Jimmy, Alister, and Max McRae on the sun visors, a rare detail that deepens the car’s connection to Subaru’s rally heyday.

Now up for sale through Iconic Auctioneers’ Classic Sale, this Impreza carries an estimate of £15,000 to £20,000—remarkably close to its original price when new in the mid-90s.

This is striking when you consider the escalating prices elsewhere; for context, Iconic Auctioneers recently sold Colin McRae’s 1998 Subaru Impreza STi 22B for a staggering £480,500.

That shows how much value McRae-associated cars can command.

Rob Hubbard, director at Iconic Auctioneers, points out that McRae-linked vehicles tend to draw significant attention.

However, this particular car stands out due to its early UK specs, its history as a press car, and genuine family ownership.

For those interested in rally heritage or Subaru’s golden era, it offers a rare opportunity to own a car that balances everyday usability with significant historical importance.

In a market where 1990s performance cars continue to spark nostalgia and demand, this Impreza presents a quietly compelling chance.

Once it slips into a private collection, opportunities like this might become even harder to find.

Subaru Heritage Service Revives Parts for Classic WRX STI https://thecarsdaily.com/subaru-heritage-service-classic-wrx-sti-parts/ https://thecarsdaily.com/subaru-heritage-service-classic-wrx-sti-parts/#respond Mon, 16 Mar 2026 08:28:42 +0000 https://thecarsdaily.com/?p=6377 Subaru has taken an important step toward preserving its rally heritage by launching a new heritage parts initiative specifically for the original Impreza WRX and STI models.

For many enthusiasts who have long been on the lookout for rare replacement components, this marks a welcome sign of factory support for some of Subaru’s most iconic performance cars.

The Subaru Heritage Service program focuses initially on the mid-1990s GC-chassis versions of the WRX and STI—widely considered the purest reflections of Subaru’s World Rally Championship run.

Subaru Heritage Service
Subaru Heritage Service

Announced at the Nostalgic 2 Days event in Yokohama, the program will gradually offer a growing range of replacement parts for aging cars.

Early availability includes items like engine seals, headlight components, and weather stripping—consumables that tend to deteriorate after decades of use.

This parts catalogue didn’t emerge out of thin air. Subaru conducted extensive research among Japanese owners, many eager to keep their classic WRX and STI models running indefinitely.

Engineers went as far as dismantling high-mileage vehicles, some clocking over 125,000 miles, to identify the most commonly worn components and focus on what would have the greatest impact on long-term ownership.

A rare 1996 Impreza Type RA STI Version II V-Limited was featured at Subaru’s booth, underlining the importance of this era.

Subaru Heritage Service
Subaru Heritage Service

Only 555 of these were produced to celebrate Subaru’s 1995 World Rally Championship title, making the model a prized collector’s piece amid the many limited-run Japanese performance cars of that time.

Currently, this heritage parts initiative is limited to Japan, with orders processed through domestic dealers.

That said, similar programs from Mazda and Honda started this way before expanding internationally, so there is reason to believe Subaru’s effort could follow suit.

For markets like the United States, where early WRX models and the 2004–2005 STI are gaining value as modern classics, this initiative will likely attract attention.

Subaru’s strong foothold in North America combined with the current pause on the STI badge means these historic performance models play a growing role in the brand’s identity.

Subaru has even launched a dedicated website to allow owners to request additional parts for future production runs.

The message accompanying the request form sums it up well—people just want to keep their cherished cars on the road.

For those who appreciate rally heritage, the distinctive shelters, hood scoops, and unmistakable boxer engine sound, Subaru’s heritage program may be crucial in keeping the golden era of Impreza performance alive.

1986 Porsche 911 Carrera Targa Listed on Bring a Trailer https://thecarsdaily.com/1986-porsche-911-carrera-targa/ https://thecarsdaily.com/1986-porsche-911-carrera-targa/#respond Thu, 12 Mar 2026 09:30:39 +0000 https://thecarsdaily.com/?p=6244 The classic air-cooled 911s always have fans, and this 1986 Porsche 911 Carrera Targa is up for auction on Bring a Trailer, waiting for a new home.

This 911, with its open roof and special paint job, mixes the cool style of the eighties with the simple mechanics that have made these cars favorites.

This Carrera came from the factory in Nutmeg Brown Metallic (code 492), with beige leather inside and power-adjustable sport seats in the front.

It has the classic air-cooled setup: a 3.2-liter flat-six engine in the back that powers the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transaxle.

Back when it was new, the engine had 202 horsepower and 185 lb-ft of torque, which was a good amount for the time.

It gives that fun, mechanical driving feeling that makes the 3.2-generation 911 so liked by those who love the original feel.

The outside still has the original details. It has spoilers on the front and back, fog lights, and the signature removable black Targa roof panel.

This lets you drive with the roof open but keeps the classic 911 look.

It has 16-inch BBS wheels with gold centers and Continental ExtremeContact tires that were put on in 2024.

Disc brakes on all four wheels help it stop.

The inside is mostly original, with a few changes. The sport seats are covered in beige leather, and there are Carrera floor mats.

An Alpine stereo and sound processor are added, hooked up to audio equipment in the trunk and rear speakers where the back seats would be.

The steering wheel is redone in brown leather and it has the traditional VDO gauges.

This car has been enjoyed, and it shows.

The seller points out some dents on the driver’s door, a crack in the fog-light lens, and some damage to the front spoiler.

Inside, the dashboard is a bit warped, and the cruise control sometimes works. The odometer says 96,000 miles, but it’s not working, so the total mileage is unknown.

The current owner added about 1,000 miles after buying it in 2024. Before that, it was registered in Arizona, Idaho, and Utah.

Last year, it got new spark plugs and a battery, but the seller says there’s a small oil leak.

It comes with a clean Carfax report and a Utah title.

The imperfections add to the car’s story.

Many fans would rather have a well-used air-cooled 911 with character than a perfect show car.

This Carrera Targa seems ready for the next owner to enjoy it just as Porsche intended.

Honda launches Heritage Parts Program for first-gen NSX owners https://thecarsdaily.com/honda-nsx-heritage-parts-program/ https://thecarsdaily.com/honda-nsx-heritage-parts-program/#respond Tue, 10 Mar 2026 13:29:07 +0000 https://thecarsdaily.com/?p=6124 Good news for people who own classic Honda NSX cars!

Honda just started a Heritage Parts Program to help keep the first generation (1991-2005) Acura NSX on the road.

These cars are known for their mid-engine design and are considered legends.

This program has two kinds of parts available. First, there are exact copies of the original parts.

Honda is making these reproduction parts using the same materials and ways of making them as they did back in the day.

Honda launches Heritage Parts Program

This keeps the cars looking and working just like they did when they were new. second, they also have Honda Compatible Parts. These parts are new and improved.

They use modern materials and the latest ways of making things.

The parts cover almost everything you might need to fix or maintain your NSX. You can find parts for the engine, the car’s frame, the inside, the outside, and even the electrical system.

This gives owners a complete solution for taking care of their cars.

Honda launches Heritage Parts Program

Right now, it’s not clear if Honda will add other Acura or Honda cars to this program. But, this program is part of a bigger plan called Heritage Works, which also includes a restoration service in Japan.

For now, people in the U.S. can order parts through Acura dealerships starting this summer.

This is going to make it much easier and cheaper for NSX owners to find the parts they need to keep their cars running well.

This program shows that Honda is serious about keeping its most famous cars in good shape, even years after they stopped making them.

For people in the UK who love classic Japanese cars, this program shows something important.

Car companies are starting to see that it’s worth supporting older cars by making good replacement parts.

So, if you have a first-gen NSX, it’s about to get a lot easier to keep it in great condition. The ability to order parts begins soon.

Caterham Seven HWM Edition Celebrates Racing Heritage in 19-Unit UK Run https://thecarsdaily.com/caterham-seven-hwm-edition-uk-launch/ https://thecarsdaily.com/caterham-seven-hwm-edition-uk-launch/#respond Mon, 09 Mar 2026 12:22:54 +0000 https://thecarsdaily.com/?p=5916 Caterham just dropped something pretty cool: a retro-styled Seven that celebrates the 75th birthday of the 1951 HWM Alta single-seater.

It’s a mix of classic looks with today’s performance tech.

This new Seven, the HWM Edition, is all about paying respect to Hersham and Walton Motors.

They were a small team based in Surrey that was into racing and even building their own cars back in the late ’40s and early ’50s.

Their 1951 Alta car did pretty well, racking up seven wins, seven second-place spots, and ten third-place finishes in races all over the place.

Caterham Seven HWM Edition

Even a young Stirling Moss drove for them! Caterham really nailed the look with the HWM Green paint job and some old-school touches.

You’ll see a special front grille, vents on the side panels, a shiny chrome gas cap in the middle, and some sweet 13-inch alloy wheels. The bad news? Only 19 of these are coming to the UK.

Each one is based on the 420 model.

Underneath that vintage style is a 2.0-litre Duratec engine with four cylinders.

It puts out 210 bhp, which is enough to get this lightweight car from 0 to 62 mph in just 3.8 seconds.

Inside, the retro theme continues. There’s a hand-turned aluminum dashboard, Smiths chrome gauges, a cool chrome master cut-off switch, a Moto-Lita wooden steering wheel, and chrome details on the gear and handbrake levers.

You can pick between carbon fiber racing seats or leather and tartan ones.

Either way, they’re way comfier than what the drivers in the original Alta had to deal with back in the day, whose drivers sat with a leg on either side of the gearbox.

Caterham Seven HWM Edition

According to HWM boss Guy Jenner, they are really happy to celebrate HWM’s history as a racing team and car builder, and he added their gratitude to Caterham for their craftsmanship.

If you’re a car fan in the UK, the Seven HWM Edition is a rare thing. It’s a blend of history and modern fun, a collector’s piece that offers both quickness and amazing attention to the old-school details.

Judd Rebuilds V6 for JAS Tensei Honda NSX Restomod https://thecarsdaily.com/judd-v6-engine-jas-tensei-honda-nsx-restomod/ https://thecarsdaily.com/judd-v6-engine-jas-tensei-honda-nsx-restomod/#respond Thu, 05 Mar 2026 08:09:10 +0000 https://thecarsdaily.com/?p=5764 A famous Formula One engine maker is getting into the restomod game! Judd Engines is going to help give the V6 engine in the Tensei a makeover.

The Tensei is JAS Motorsport’s cool new take on the classic Honda NSX.

This project is like mixing serious racing know-how with one of the best Japanese sports cars from the ’90s.

Judd, a British company started by John Judd and F1 champ Jack Brabham, will be in charge of tweaking the car’s 3.5-liter V6.

They’re known for building awesome Formula One V8 and V10 engines, as well as engines for endurance racing, so they know their stuff when it comes to making high-performance engines.

For the Tensei, Judd will check the engine carefully and cut down on weight while making the performance better. They’re not just trying to get more horsepower.

The engineers will also work on improving how the power is delivered and making sure the engine lasts, all while keeping the feel that made the original NSX so loved.

Even with all the engine work, the rebuilt engine will still be like Honda’s original design. John Judd Jr. says that they work on old and new 3.5-liter engines all the time and want to use that knowledge to make the V6 more responsive and better to drive every day.

The changes aren’t just to the engine, though. Pininfarina, a design company, is in charge of updating the NSX’s look for the Tensei.

They’re making small changes to the ’90s shape while keeping the same look that made it a special car. From what we’ve seen, it looks like they’re keeping the spirit of the original car but making it look fresh.

Subaru Impreza WR1 Heads to Auction https://thecarsdaily.com/subaru-impreza-wr1-auction/ https://thecarsdaily.com/subaru-impreza-wr1-auction/#respond Tue, 03 Mar 2026 15:45:47 +0000 https://thecarsdaily.com/?p=5708 Subaru Impreza WR1 up for grabs at auction on TheMarket.co.uk, and it’s kind of a big deal.

This isn’t just any Impreza. We’re talking about one of only 500 made for the UK to celebrate Petter Solberg and Phil Mills winning the World Rally Championship back in 2003.

It’s like a final hurrah for Subaru’s classic 2.0-liter turbo engine.

This particular one, number 153 to be exact, is coated in a cool Ice Blue Metallic.

Subaru Impreza WR1
Subaru Impreza WR1

And because it’s a WR1, it got some tuning from Prodrive right from the factory. Those guys tweaked the engine’s computer and exhaust, boosting the power up to 320 horsepower.

It’s got a six-speed manual transmission and something called a Driver Controlled Center Differential, which basically means you’ve got a lot of control over how the power is delivered.

Back in the day, it could do 0 to 60 mph in just a little over four seconds. The car looks the part too, with dark gray Prodrive wheels, gold Brembo brake calipers, and that massive rear spoiler that screams rally car.

Now, this Impreza has seen some action, with about 95,782 miles on the clock. But it sounds like it’s been taken care of.

The car’s service history is super complete, with records going back 22 years and 18 services. That’s a lot of love.

They even replaced the timing belt and water pump not long ago, in November 2023 at 95,250 miles, and had another service this February.

So mechanically, it sounds like it’s in great shape. The only thing to keep in mind is that the rear tires were flagged as something to watch on the last inspection, so you’ll want to factor in the cost of replacing those.

The inside has a black and blue theme, with supportive seats, a neat aluminum gear knob marked with WR1, extra gauges, and a Pioneer stereo with Bluetooth.

It’s not perfect, with a few small marks here and there, but overall, it looks like someone really cared about keeping it nice.

These Impreza STIs, especially those limited editions that remind everyone of Subaru’s rally wins, are becoming more and more valuable.

So, this WR1 could be a rare chance to snag a special piece of UK car history. If you’re into Subarus or rally cars, it might be worth checking out.

Safari-Style 1980 Porsche 911SC Heads to Auction https://thecarsdaily.com/1980-porsche-911sc-safari-34l-auction/ https://thecarsdaily.com/1980-porsche-911sc-safari-34l-auction/#respond Sun, 01 Mar 2026 21:19:13 +0000 https://thecarsdaily.com/?p=5608 Okay, so there’s this really cool, jacked-up 1980 Porsche 911SC up for grabs on Bring a Trailer.

Someone went all-out turning this classic into an off-road beast, giving it that awesome Safari vibe.

It’s rocking a rebuilt 3.4-litre flat-six engine and is being sold by a BaT Local Partner in Arizona, with a clean California title.

Safari-Style 1980 Porsche 911SC
Safari-Style 1980 Porsche 911SC

Originally, this was just your average 911SC coupe. But, before the current owner got their hands on it, someone swapped in that 3.4L twin-plug flat-six.

That engine’s got some serious goodies inside, like 98mm JE pistons, a 964 oil pump, a 993 distributor, and a Cyntex performance chip.

Both the engine and the Type 915 five-speed manual gearbox were rebuilt back in 2020.

Then, in 2025, TRE Automotive in Van Nuys did some top-end work to fix any leaks. And yes, it still sends all that power to the rear wheels, just like Porsche intended.

Safari-Style 1980 Porsche 911SC

Looks-wise, it’s hard to miss that bright blue paint job – it’s Audi Nogaro Blue. They even got rid of the sunroof for a cleaner look.

But the transformation really took off after the current owner bought it on BaT in November 2022. That’s when the Safari-style upgrades started rolling in.

We’re talking 17-inch white RUF Speedline wheels wrapped in Falken Wildpeak A/T Trail tires, Motion Control Suspension dampers, 928 GTS brake calipers, skid plates, mudflaps, and a set of bright PIAA auxiliary lights.

To complete the rally-inspired style, it has a perforated rear bumper and a whale-tail spoiler .

The inside has been updated too, with BRIDE bucket seats to hold you tight, a Kachel Motorsports roll bar for safety, and a WEVO shifter for more precise gear changes.

The rear seats? Gone to make room for activities. The odometer says it’s got 149,000 miles on it, though the actual total mileage is unknown.

Safari-Style 1980 Porsche 911SC
Safari-Style 1980 Porsche 911SC

It did pass a California smog check back in December 2025, but just a heads up, the engine swap hasn’t been inspected by the California Bureau of Automotive Repair.

If you’re over in the UK and keeping an eye on the US car market, this Porsche is a fantastic example of how the classic air-cooled 911 scene is still changing and getting wilder.

And right now, it is being auctioned on Bring a Trailer.

1963 Mercury Monterey Breezeway at UK auction https://thecarsdaily.com/1963-mercury-monterey-breezeway-uk-auction/ https://thecarsdaily.com/1963-mercury-monterey-breezeway-uk-auction/#respond Sun, 22 Feb 2026 18:06:45 +0000 https://thecarsdaily.com/?p=5430 Sometimes, you see a car that’s just plain cool. And then there are cars that take cool and crank it way, way up.

This 1963 Mercury Monterey Breezeway is definitely one of the latter. Imagine a big, bold American cruiser, dipped in a shimmering Candy Apple Red, suddenly appearing in the UK.

That’s exactly what’s happened with EBW 408B, a two-door coupe that’s turning heads and dropping jaws.

Currently up for auction on themarket.co.uk, this Monterey perfectly mixes old-school charm with some clever modern upgrades.

1963 Mercury Monterey Breezeway
1963 Mercury Monterey Breezeway

The first thing that hits you is the sheer size of this car. That big, sweeping body shows off the Candy Apple Red paint beautifully, especially with the sharp contrast of the red and black roof.

When parked, the air suspension drops the car low over its black radial spoke wheels, giving it a seriously menacing look and showing off the bright red Winwood brake calipers.

1963 Mercury Monterey Breezeway
1963 Mercury Monterey Breezeway

But don’t worry, it can easily lift back up to a reasonable ride height for cruising.

The original warm-glow headlamps are still there, keeping that classic 60s vibe alive, and the chrome trim is in pretty good shape overall.

Now, let’s be real – it’s an old car, so it’s not perfect. There’s some light pitting on the rear bumper, a few touch-ups on the rear wing, and a little bit of rust starting to show around the A-pillars and windscreen.

But honestly, that’s to be expected on a car of this age, and it just adds to its character.

Getting into the back of this Monterey is an event in itself, thanks to the pivoting front seats.

The interior is a great mix of original features and well-chosen upgrades. A custom alloy steering wheel immediately catches your eye, along with a Sunpro Super Tach II and Airlift Performance controls.

The original Art Deco-style instruments and what looks to be the factory radio give the cabin an authentic feel, while twin air tanks and Viair compressors are neatly tucked away in the trunk.

Under the hood, this Monterey has had some serious work done.

1963 Mercury Monterey Breezeway
1963 Mercury Monterey Breezeway

Invoices from Valley Gas Speed Shop between 2009 and 2011 show a full engine rebuild, a transmission overhaul, and a conversion to electronic ignition.

Although its last official inspection (MoT) was in 2017, there are no signs of any major structural issues.

The listing suggests that some preventative maintenance and minor work could be done to the underbody, but overall, this is a very cool and very usable piece of classic American steel.

If you’re looking for a classic American car that stands out from the crowd, this Mercury Monterey Breezeway is definitely worth a look.

It has the looks, the history, and the right upgrades to make it a joy to own and drive. It is a compelling blend of vintage style and modern convenience, and it’s ready to cruise the streets of the UK in style.

Singer Confirmed for Goodwood 2026 Central Feature https://thecarsdaily.com/singer-goodwood-2026-central-feature/ https://thecarsdaily.com/singer-goodwood-2026-central-feature/#respond Thu, 19 Feb 2026 19:09:04 +0000 https://thecarsdaily.com/?p=5290 The 2026 Goodwood Festival of Speed will shine its spotlight on Singer Vehicle Design, with the Californian Porsche specialist confirmed as the event’s Central Feature marque.

For a company founded in 2009, it’s a remarkable nod from one of the world’s most prestigious automotive gatherings.

The Goodwood Central Feature is never subtle. Designed by Gerry Judah and positioned dramatically outside Goodwood House, the structure traditionally celebrates major manufacturers with cars suspended in gravity-defying poses.

In 2026, it will honour Singer’s influence on modern Porsche culture, bringing together a collection of its reimagined 911s in what organisers promise will be a celebratory showcase of the brand’s impact.

Singer has built its reputation by reworking the Porsche 911 into exquisitely engineered, meticulously detailed machines that blend heritage design with modern performance.

Over the years, the Festival of Speed has also served as a launchpad for key models, including the DLS, DLS Turbo and Carrera Coupe.

Given that history, few would be surprised if another debut accompanies the display when the event returns in the second weekend of July 2026.

Founder Rob Dickinson described the selection as “startling, humbling and oddly appropriate,” noting the importance of Goodwood in shaping the company’s identity.

Though based in California, Singer’s craftsmanship and philosophy draw heavily on British engineering culture, making its starring role feel fitting.

For UK enthusiasts, the 2026 Festival of Speed Central Feature promises not only visual theatre but a rare opportunity to see some of the world’s most coveted 911 reinterpretations displayed on an extraordinary scale.

Lunaz Reveals 5.0-Litre Aston Martin DB6 https://thecarsdaily.com/lunaz-aston-martin-db6-5-0-litre-350bhp/ https://thecarsdaily.com/lunaz-aston-martin-db6-5-0-litre-350bhp/#respond Thu, 19 Feb 2026 08:30:34 +0000 https://thecarsdaily.com/?p=5235 Lunaz has done the unexpected. The Silverstone-based restoration specialist, best known for electrifying Britain’s most elegant classics, has unveiled a V12-free but thoroughly petrol-powered Aston Martin DB6 to mark its 50th commission.

This particular DB6 swaps the original 4.0-litre straight-six – once good for around 282bhp – for a newly developed 5.0-litre straight-six producing 350bhp.

It’s the first time Lunaz has increased internal combustion power on a DB6, signalling a clear shift in direction for the firm.

Suspension, steering and braking systems have all been reworked, while the body has been subtly enhanced with sculpted arches and a bespoke green finish accented by soft gold detailing.

Inside, the restored cabin blends period craftsmanship with tailored luxury.

Expect silver switchgear, mother-of-pearl inlays, plus a rich mix of cashmere, suede and leather.

This example is the first of a limited-run ‘First Edition’ series, commissioned by a private client seeking a one-off specification.

The move comes after a turbulent spell for Lunaz, which previously scaled back its commercial vehicle electrification arm.

Now, the company describes a “powertrain-agnostic approach”, leaving the door open to both EV conversions and traditional combustion builds.

Founder David Lorenz calls the 5.0-litre DB6 a watershed moment, leveraging the firm’s Formula One-derived engineering expertise while staying true to its founding aim: preserving and enhancing the world’s most celebrated cars for future generations.

For UK enthusiasts, it’s a striking sign that even the EV pioneers aren’t ready to abandon petrol just yet.

Studebaker Avanti R2 Joins LACMA Gallery https://thecarsdaily.com/studebaker-avanti-r2-lacma-raymond-loewy/ https://thecarsdaily.com/studebaker-avanti-r2-lacma-raymond-loewy/#respond Tue, 17 Feb 2026 09:45:55 +0000 https://thecarsdaily.com/?p=5191 A supercharged slice of 1960s Americana is heading for the gallery floor. The Los Angeles County Museum of Art will place a 1963 Studebaker Avanti R2, once owned by industrial design legend Raymond Loewy, at the centre of its newly opened David Geffen Galleries this April.

The car forms part of a broader exhibition exploring car culture through photography, sculpture and painting, with a particular focus on Southern California.

It’s a bold curatorial move for a major art institution, but the Avanti makes a compelling case. Loewy – the mind behind the Coca-Cola bottle silhouette, the Shell logo and even elements of Skylab – penned the Avanti during Studebaker’s turbulent early-1960s fight for survival.

Studebaker Avanti R2
Studebaker Avanti R2

Commissioned by company president Sherwood Egbert and styled in Palm Springs, the project went from clay model to production in just 40 days.

Launched in 1962, the Avanti paired dramatic, otherworldly styling with a fibreglass body and a 289-cubic-inch V8.

Buyers could specify a supercharger, and the range-topping R3 variant would later crack 170mph at Bonneville, briefly claiming the title of world’s fastest production car.

Studebaker Avanti R2
Studebaker Avanti R2

LACMA’s example is one of two R2s personally owned by Loewy. Period modifications include subtle three-tone paintwork, aluminium detailing and cable-operated exhaust cut-outs – proof that its designer valued theatre as much as aesthetics.

Recently restored after more than a decade in the museum’s collection, it now sits just minutes from the Petersen Automotive Museum, underlining how seriously California treats the automobile as art.

1985 Mercedes-Benz 250 LWB Heads to Auction https://thecarsdaily.com/1985-mercedes-benz-250-lwb-4-speed-auction/ https://thecarsdaily.com/1985-mercedes-benz-250-lwb-4-speed-auction/#respond Sat, 14 Feb 2026 14:35:22 +0000 https://thecarsdaily.com/?p=5125 If you think the Mercedes-Benz 250 was all taxis and tidy saloons, think again.

This rare long-wheelbase limousine is now up for auction on Bring a Trailer, offering a glimpse into a more discreet side of eighties executive travel.

Delivered new in Germany, this 1985 example is one of 5,180 “lange” versions built between 1977 and 1985.

The W123 platform was stretched by 24.8 inches over the standard saloon, creating genuine eight-seat capacity across three rows.

1985 Mercedes-Benz 250 LWB
1985 Mercedes-Benz 250 LWB

Finished in Deep Blue (900U) with classic Euro bumpers and headlamps, it retains period details including rear vent windows and polished 15-inch steel wheels wrapped in Michelin XVS tyres.

Under the bonnet sits the carburetted 2.5-litre M123 straight-six, producing 140hp when new.

1985 Mercedes-Benz 250 LWB
1985 Mercedes-Benz 250 LWB

Unusually for a limousine of this era, it pairs with a four-speed manual gearbox driving the rear wheels. Self-levelling rear suspension came as standard on long-wheelbase cars, complemented here by power steering and anti-lock disc brakes all round.

Inside, Beige fabric upholstery is offset by Zebrano wood trim, with central locking, a heated rear screen and a Blaupunkt Frankfurt stereo adding period charm.

The odometer reads 141,000 kilometres – roughly 88,000 miles – with minimal use since 2016.

Offered in Göttingen, Germany, with factory literature and its original data card, this extended W123 represents a rare opportunity to own a seldom-seen chapter of Mercedes’ enduring executive legacy.
